The plan was to get a coffee from Starbucks, walk over to the Ogden Point Breakwater where I could enjoy it with a view (and a book), and then walk the Dallas Road Waterfront Trail. That was the plan.
Instead, I got a coffee from Starbucks and then stood and waited while Queen Elizabeth II’s procession slowly, slowly crawled by – eventually unblocking the street and letting me continue on my merry way. By then it was too late for my coffee, it disappeared while I watched the procession. Which was just as well, it was too windy to read comfortably at the end of the breakwater so I just took in the view for a few minutes and then wandered on.
It’s a short “hike” but the view is pretty unique. Maybe you’ll see some seaplanes, maybe you’ll see some cruise ships – you never know. If you really want to live on the edge, you can actually walk the entire length of the breakwater on the ‘lower’ rock paths. There’s no rail though, so if you slip, you’re swimming. If you go during the day you’ll probably find a couple of folks fishing on those lower rocks.
